Compared to pumpkin, courgettes are much more popular in Italian and European cuisine. They can be steamed, boiled or stir-fried. They are a good complement for soups and pasta sauce and a tasty side dish for meat and fish courses.
The courgette is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the original Cucurbitaceae family of Central America. The courgette is harvested when it is still unripe, preventing it from ripening into a pumpkin. Its yellow flowers are generally eaten fried.
